Immigrate to Morden: Find out how to apply

The city of Morden provides an opportunity for the ones looking for how to immigrate to Canada.

Many families around the world, including mine, are going to immigrate to Morden thru their Strategic Recruitment Program. To find out how Morden showed up in our lives check this post.

The Requirements to Immigrate to Morden

The first thing that you have to worry about is if you have all the requirements necessary to apply. Note that each year they can be modified so you have to focus and not waste time thinking about whether you should apply or not.

I believe the MOST IMPORTANT requirement that you need to remember is that you MUST LIVE IN MORDEN. By saying that I mean that you must build your whole life there, have roots in the community, a job, raise your kids, get involved with the community.

This is what they are looking for and believe me, they will check your profile out of the list if they slightly suspect your lifestyle doesn’t match the reality of Morden.

This recruitment program selects around 50 families per year. So PLEASE, only apply to Morden if you really feel that a small-city life is meant for you, otherwise, you are taking away a chance from someone that really wants this great opportunity.

Other requirements are:
  • At least two years of full-time work experience in the past five years in an MCDII target occupation.

  • Must have a federal express entry profile which will require a CLB language score of 7 and post-secondary education that is certified by WES, IQAS, or equivalent.  (see https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry.html for details on express entry profiles.

  • Be between the ages of 21 and 45

  • Have no other connection to other parts of Canada (i.e. through friends, relatives or previous employment or education)

  • Have completed a post-secondary education or training program of at least one year duration, for which you received a diploma, certificate, or degree

  • Have settlement funds as required by Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program.

Now if you are WELDER or CARPENTER, you are lucky because your requirements are as it follows:

  • 2+ years of recent experience in welding and commercial or residential carpentry

  • Recent (2 years) general IELTS test with a minimum score of 5 in each band.

  • Be between the ages of 21 and 45

  • Have no other connection to other parts of Canada (i.e. through friends, relatives or previous employment or education)

  • Have completed a post-secondary education or training program of at least one-year duration, for which you received a diploma, certificate, or degree

  • Have settlement funds as required by Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program.

Which Occupations are in Demand?

The city of Morden is a 9,000 people community that is booming. Many new developments going on, for instance, there is a new Best Western Hotel of 70 rooms being built as well as housing is in demand, therefore, all the occupations in trades are needed.

Other industries that hire a lot in Morden are clothing manufacturer, wooden cabinets, window panels, hospitality, as well as office jobs, marketing and sales.

They give preferences to the occupations listed on this link https://www.mordenimmigration.com/skilled-worker-faq but even if yours is not in the list, give it a try and apply. That’s how I did. I applied as a Hotel Manager and got approved.

I always say that you already have the “NO”, so the “YES” will come only if you try. Besides, you don’t waste any money to apply so you have nothing to lose.

Send your Application

To send your application you need to fill in the forms related to the strategic recruitment program. The forms can be accessed here.

Add your passport copy, IELTS result, your resume and Express Entry profile number and email to [email protected] In addition, include your wife/husband resume, passport copy and if there is an IELTS result send it as well.

After that starts the game *grins*. You will receive an email giving you a date until when you will know if your profile will be analyzed or reproved right away.

If you pass this stage then, Ms. Shelly Voth which is in charge of this whole process will ask to schedule a Skype interview with you.

During the interview she might ask several questions related to your motivations to live in Morden, how did you find out about the process, why Morden would be a good city for you and your family, how is your lifestyle, your goals and desires about your career, etc.

I realized there are a few details in common among people who got approved:

  • To have lived in small cities or rural areas
  • Entrepreneur background/mindset or business owner
  • To have lived in a foreign country with English as a native language

On the Skype interview which takes around 20-30 minutes, Ms. Voth will inform when the result of your application will be delivered.

The last email will be with the official invitation for you to go to the Exploratory Visit( aka EE) and spend around 1 week in the City of Morden.

Note that this trip must be paid by the applicant. So be aware of the expenses.

What is the Exploratory Visit for?

The time spent in Morden is very important for you to realize if your goals and family’s lifestyle match what the city has to offer you

Never forget that you are supposed to LIVE IN MORDEN, so pay attention to the surroundings and infrastructure to determine if it’s the right place.

During the EV, there will be someone in charge to take you on a tour around Morden. At the time of our trip, we were toured by Linda O’connell. She is very kind and open to all the questions you might have.

The tour contains visits to the educational and health system, in addition to the City Hall and most important spots of the city, industrial, residential and commercial sites of Morden.

You will also visit a very important place for newcomers, Regional Connections which is the immigrant support centre.

You can either do this by driving a rented car or together with Linda in her van. It all depends on how many people there will be on the EE at the same time. Some weeks are really busy. For instance, there were around 8 candidates during our trip.

Meantime you are not on the tour, take the time to visit shops and places you might be interested to work in the future.

Collect their business card, take notes on all expenses you will have after your landing. How much you will need to settle on your first month and which income you have to have in order to survive there. State this in detail because it will be asked on the last step of the process which is an interview with the MPNP officer at Winnipeg.

What are my chances?

If you reach this stage you have 98% of chances to be nominated by Manitoba and immigrate to Morden. Unless they find any misrepresentation issue on your profile. For example, if you cannot prove what you said with your documents.

So be careful because this is a major problem and you will be denied for sure!

MPNP Interview at Winnipeg

Ms. Voth will schedule a meeting on your last day and review the details of the application together with you. She will advise you what to do and how to arrive at the interview.

Take all the documents with its official English transcript:

  • Post-secondary education that is certified by WES, IQAS, or equivalent
  • IELTS result
  • Birthday certificate
  • Marriage or Common-in-law certificate
  • Proof of Funds. Check the values here
  • Letter of recommendation from your employers proving your work experience
Then you flight back to your country and wait around 10-15 days to receive the provincial nomination which gives you 600 points for the federal process which will lead you to the Permanent Residency.

Prove your Work Experience

You need to prove your work background from 5 years ago. So be prepared to get a letter of recommendation from all your employers stating the details below:

This info must be printed on a letterhead and signed by the employer. You can also add an email and phone number for further explanations about your profile

I believe that Morden is a great place for families, to raise your kids and to have a great quality of life. It is very secure and the community welcomes you supporting all needs for you to have a successful and smooth experience into the Canadian culture.
