Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre is a must-visit in Morden

Morden holds one of the star attractions of the Pembina Valley, the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre, which brings thousands of visitors each year.
If you love Dinosaurs, then this place is a MUST in your tour list. I was really impressed to find so many fossil displays rich in history located in such a small city as Morden.
To visit the Museum just head to the Access Event Centre which is a the community centre where the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame Museum also takes place.

But why so many fossils are found here?

The area used to be filled with marine reptiles during the Cretaceous Period 80 million years ago, hence is a fertile land which made possible the discovery of the local fauna.
Fossils of plesiosaurs, mosasaurs, sharks, squid, fish, birds and turtles were excavated from the Escarpment and are displayed in the museum showing complete skeletons.
The most famous is Bruce, a Tylosaurus Pembinensis which was on the top of the food chain and also holds the Guinness World Record as the largest publicly displayed mosasaur.
Bruce was found in a farmer’s field in 1974 and is a HUGE sea reptile with more than 13 meters in length and to see it with your bare eyes pays the visit alone.

The City of Morden gives so much importance to Bruce that put up an impressive replica sign right at the city entrance. This became the most famous spot to take a picture to remember Morden!

The CFDC has the biggest collection of prehistoric marine reptiles in Canada and is a Top 5 Travel Destination according Macleans Magazine.
